It appears (?) Neovim is the "core" and all the other things are GUIs or APIs. (I've already put in decades of learning on and configuring of vi/vim, why do I need to do more? This sort of stuff I expected for vim in 1999, maybe. but all these control mechanisms are so complex now it's really hard to tell where everything is at. Light blues and yellow highlight in Python on a white background - I have to squint to read it maybe some other control mechanism is influencing this? I believe I disabled all my pre-Neovim settings. This is a bit critical, as the default colors for Python syntax are barely visible.

Neovim looks like a mini-project just to find the color-module libraries, let alone view-testing them or setting them. In MacVim I can browse and reset in a few seconds. vimr appears to barf on it, no matter how many different incantations of vimr I try, at least so far. MacVim does this nicely between it's cmdline/Terminal.app and existing MacVim opened-file windows. (This might be worthy of an entirely different post.) In short: why was portability (from vi/vim/MacVim) not a valued goal for the Neovim effort? vimrc/.gvimrc settings are breaking Neovim. Why did Neovim have to redefine a whole new config-file hiearchy and settings language? I spent decades compiling vi/vim stuff, and now it appears I have to retest everything, because many (most? it's hard to tell) of my. Is there a better place for Neovim learning/newbie questions? However, I await feedback so I (as a the new kid) can learn more.

I found Neovim's extensibility vision quite attractive. Trying nvim natively in iTerm2 realizes much better performance, but I'm deeming it too much effort to integrate these things to realize features currently in MacVim. I'm learning many/most GUIs have this problem, and it's not limited to MacVim. MacVim's cursor-moving/rendering slowness on large windows.

MacVim's apparent inability to freeze it's window size while font zooming, but as I've just learned, MacVim can be can be configured to do exactly this, and I've confirmed this behavior.
